ARMED ROBBERY AT FAMILY DOLLAR

Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Family Dollar on West Fourth Street in Williamsport Sunday morning.  According to the Sun Gazette, witnesses told police the man who stole cash at gunpoint fled north on Grier Street just after 9am.  Police report he was a black male about 5’9” wearing all black clothing and a skeleton mask.  There were no injuries reported at the scene, police are reviewing store surveillance video after processing the scene yesterday.

MAN ON THE RUN AFTER FATAL SHOOTING AT A BAR

A man from Sunbury is being sought by police after he allegedly shot and killed another man outside a bar on South Third Street early Sunday morning.  According to the Daily Item, an arrest warrant was issued yesterday for 33 year old Randy Easton who witnesses say fled the scene after he and the victim, Joseph Rice had an argument in the parking lot of Laughter’s Bar in which police say led to Rice brandishing a machete and Easton firing three shots one of which struck Rice in the back.  Police are asking anyone with information about Rnady Easton to call Northumberland County 911, He is considered armed and dangerous and will face charges of criminal homicide.

CORONER SEEKS SECURE OFFICE SPACE

The Lycoming County Coroner’s office is on the hunt for property that would enable his office to have sufficient space for performing autopsies, and other services. According to the Sun Gazette, the Lycoming County Commissioners have talked of combining other county offices into a joint location to save funds, but UPMC Susquehanna has stated there is available property appropriate for the coroner’s office that they would consider selling.  However, Lycoming County Coroner Charles Kiessling Jr.  says he wants a more secure location, including the possibility of a location on Arch Street in Newberry.

FUNDRAISING EFFORTS WERE OVER THE EDGE

Almost $99,000 was raised in the 5th Annual Over The Edge event, at the William Hepburn Apartments on Friday. Approximately 811 donors participated with 67 descenders rappelling down the side of the structure. The money raised goes toward the River Valley YMCA, the YWCA of Northcentral PA and the Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation. Participants contributed or raised at least a thousand dollars to participate. The event also tied in with the UPMC Susquehanna Block Party on Friday evening in downtown Williamsport.

MAN WHO SHOT PIZZA DELIVERY DRIVER IN 2020 SENTENCED

The 19 year old who shot a 14 year-old and wounding a pizza delivery driver in two separate incidents has been sentenced to 4 to 15 years in state prison, following his guilty pleas to aggravated assault and attempted robbery last June.  According to Penn Live, Nigel Staten-Chambers was sentenced in Lycoming County Court by Judge Nancy Butts, who dismissed an attempted homicide charge as part of Staten-Chambers’ plea deal.  The shootings occurred on Market Street and Penn Streets respectively in November of 2020.

CLINTON COUNTY MANHUNT GOES NATIONAL

The hunt for a Clinton County man who allegedly fled the area August 15th following a warrant issued for his arrest in charges related to the assault of a minor, has now been taken up by national fugitive task forces.  According to North Central PA dot com, Jimmy “Hank” Carlton Henry was charged with second-degree felony aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault of a person less than 13-years-old, and endangering the welfare of children for incidents that occurred in April of 2020 and his whereabouts are still unknown.  If you know anything about Henry or where he is, call Mill Hall Police or the Clinton County Communication Center.

STATE PARKS HOLDING BIRDING COMPETITION

Over 21 State Parks are participating in the 2022 Fall Migration Round-up, a birding competition to see which parks have the most diverse list of bird species through October 2nd.  According to DCNR, Birders of all levels are invited to come to the parks including Rickett’s Glen and Codorus State Parks to identify birds, and get expert help if you are a novice bird watcher.  The competition grew out of a friendly bet  between Bald Eagle and Prince Gallitzin State parks during the Pandemic and has grown since.  DCNR staff managing the program say birds are sensitive to climate change, habitat loss, and biodiversity loss hope to educate visitors about these realities.

FUNDS RAISED BY WEIS MARKET PROGRAM DONATED

Weis Markets recently donated 100 thousand dollars to the regional food banks in  the state thanks to the in-store fundraising contributions that have gone on through the summer.  According to North Central PA dot com, there was an event at Weis in Linglestown last week to present the donation which was complemented by an additional 25 thousand dollars from Kraft-Heinz, Lactalis and Upfield.  Those funds were added to help Pennsylvania’s dairy farmers and the Feeding PA program.  Food bank officials say milk is one of the most requested item at food banks but one of the least donated due to perishability.  The donations also go in part to their philanthropic hunger prevention effort called Fill A Glass With Hope.

At the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 at Texas motor Speedway Tyler Reddick, one of the first four Cup drivers knocked out of title contention last week, got the checkered flag Sunday after leading 53 of the final 54 laps. Followed by Joey Logano, Justin Haley, Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe. Chase Elliott, who entered the race points as the points leader, finished 32nd after after walking away from a fiery crash near turn 4 halfway through the race.
