SECOND TEEN ACCUSES JERSEY SHORE WOMAN OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
A second teenager has come forward with allegations of sexual assault against Jersey Shore resident Amber Lee Koch. Police say the 30‑year‑old, already facing charges for allegedly grooming another teen last year, is now accused of groping a girl she worked with beginning in March 2025. The teen reported the behavior to a teacher, who alerted authorities. Koch is already awaiting trial in a separate case involving inappropriate messages to another teen. She now faces additional counts including indecent assault, harassment, corruption of minors and indecent exposure. A preliminary hearing is set for July 15.
THREE VACANT BUILDINGS DESTROYED IN RENOVO FIRE
A three-alarm fire destroyed three vacant buildings in Renovo early Fourth of July morning. Flames broke out around 3 a.m. at the 500 block of Erie Avenue, drawing fire crews from across central Pennsylvania. Officials say the buildings were fully involved when crews arrived, and what remained had to be demolished by the end of the day. According to the Sun Gazette, several pieces of Renovo Borough equipment stored in a rear garage were also destroyed, including a bucket truck and mowers. No injuries were reported, and crews were able to save a neighboring vacant building.
VETERANS BENEFIT TRAIN RIDES RETURN TO BERWICK
North Shore Railroad is bringing back its Veterans Benefit Voyage on Saturday, July 18th. The hour-long train rides will board at Berwick’s World War Two Weekend at Test Track Park, with departures at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This year’s featured locomotives are the Veterans Unit and Memorial Unit. All ticket sales will benefit Hunts for Healing and Expedition Orange, two nonprofits supporting U.S. veterans. North Shore Railroad will also sell merchandise to raise additional funds. SCI COAL TOWNSHIP GROUP DONATES TO COATS FOR KIDS
Children across the Central Susquehanna Valley will get help staying warm this winter. The TriumpH Organization at SCI Coal Township donated 500 dollars to Central Susquehanna Opportunities’ Coats for Kids Program. The money will help provide coats and cold-weather essentials to children in Columbia, Montour, and Northumberland counties. TriumpH was founded in 1995 and gives inmates a way to take part in community service while building skills for personal growth and reintegration.
WILLIAMSPORT WOMAN CHARGED WITH BITING OFFICER
A Williamsport woman is facing felony charges after police say she spit on and bit an officer. Police say 41-year-old Tiffany Manger was removed from the Harvest Moon Mini Mart on Arch Street after causing a disturbance back in April. Officers say she refused to identify herself, fought while being taken into custody, and later spit in an officer’s face at the police station. Police say Manger also bit the officer on the knee. She’s charged with aggravated assault, assault of a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.
PA HOUSE APPROVES DATA CENTER LAND USE BILLS
The Pennsylvania House has approved three bipartisan bills dealing with data centers and local land use. The measures are aimed at giving municipalities more authority over data center development in their own communities. One bill would allow a 180-day pause on data center applications while local ordinances are updated. Another sets standards developers must meet to qualify for state tax breaks, including noise and water protections. A third bill would eliminate the current sales tax exemption for data center equipment. The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors supports the bills and is urging the Senate to act quickly.
NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY ACQUIRES WHALEBACK SITE
Northumberland County now owns the Whaleback, a rare anthracite formation long valued as an educational site. Commissioners approved a land‑swap agreement with Reading Anthracite for 105 acres, clearing the way for cleanup work and a hoped‑for fall grand opening. The Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area plans to turn the site into a major learning destination, calling the Whaleback a world‑class geologic gem visited by students from around the globe. Final paperwork should be completed by August.
PENN STATE EXTENSION EXPANDS CROP HOTLINE
Penn State Extension has expanded its toll-free crop hotline for the 2026 growing season. The 800-PENN-IPM hotline now includes agronomic updates, along with crop production, weather outlook, and pest and disease management information. It’s designed especially for growers who do not use computer technology but is open to anyone. Messages average about three minutes and cover key issues for farms and greenhouses across Pennsylvania. Argentina and Switzerland are moving on at the World Cup after two dramatic finishes Tuesday. Argentina erased a two-goal deficit to beat Egypt 3-2.
