WOMAN CHARGED IN MILL HALL PROSTITUTION CASE
A Clinton County massage parlor has been raided after investigators say employees were being prostituted. District Attorney Dave Strouse says state police made arrests Tuesday at Relaxa Spa in Mill Hall after several weeks of surveillance. According to North Central PA dot com, A woman identified as 49-year-old Jinwei Wang, of Flushing, New York, is charged with felony promoting prostitution and attempted prostitution. She is jailed on 50-thousand dollars bail with an ICE detainer. Multiple men are also expected to face charges for allegedly soliciting sexual acts.
WILLIAMSPORT TEENS TAKE PLEA DEALS IN SHOOTING CASE
Two Williamsport teenagers charged in a retaliatory shooting in Loyalsock have taken plea deals. Eighteen-year-old Tykir Smith pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted reckless endangerment and criminal mischief, while 19-year-old Jayson Applewhite pleaded no contest to the same counts. Prosecutors say Smith, Applewhite and others opened fire on the wrong apartment on Randall Circle, believing it was tied to the suspect in Ahmeen Palmer’s killing. Applewhite was sentenced to time served and four years probation. Smith’s sentencing is set for August fourth.
MILTON APPROVES ICE 287-G PARTNERSHIP
Milton Borough Council has approved the police department’s participation in ICE’s 287-g program. Wednesday night’s vote needed the mayor’s yes vote after council split with four yes votes and four abstentions. The federal program allows trained local officers to perform certain immigration enforcement duties in partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. According to the Daily Item, some residents and a local pastor asked council to table the vote so the public could weigh in further. Milton now joins several area departments participating in the program.
LYCOMING COUNTY FAIR UNDERWAY IN HUGHESVILLE
The 155th Lycoming County Fair is underway in Hughesville, celebrating “250 Years of Freedom, Family and PA Fairs.” Today, the fair opens at 4 p.m., with rides starting at 5. Twilight Harness Racing begins at 4 with free admission, and the Livestock Supply Auction starts at 6. Admission is 4 dollars, kids 12 and under are free with a paid adult, and parking is 4 dollars. WILLIAMSPORT FAMILY ESCAPES TWO-ALARM FIRE
A mother, her two children and their two dogs are safe after an early morning fire in Williamsport. Fire officials say flames broke out around 5:50 Wednesday morning in the attached garage of a home on Grove Street, then spread to the house. According to the Sun Gazette, several explosions were reported, including one that blew out a front bay window. Crews from several departments helped bring the two-alarm fire under control in about 40 minutes. The cause remains under investigation, and the family is staying with relatives.
NEW YORK MAN JAILED AFTER 20-MILE POLICE CHASE
A New York man is jailed after state police say he led troopers on a roughly 20-mile chase through Potter and McKean counties. Police say 65-year-old Timothy Hewitt, of Kennedy, New York, fled a traffic stop Monday on Route 6 in Roulette Township after being told his license was suspended. Troopers say the pursuit ended in Eldred Borough after spike strips and several PIT maneuvers. Investigators say Hewitt resisted arrest, and one trooper allegedly punched him several times while trying to take him into custody. Hewitt faces felony assault and fleeing charges.
SNYDER COUNTY SOLICITOR RETIRES AFTER 19 YEARS
Snyder County is getting a new solicitor after nearly two decades. Attorney Robert Cravitz is retiring after 19 years representing the county, prison board, retirement board, Tax Assessment and Tax Claim Bureau. According to the Daily Item, Commissioners accepted his resignation Tuesday with gratitude, crediting his guidance for helping the county avoid legal problems. His son, attorney Matthew Cravitz, will take over the role. Commissioners also approved a contract with Cravitz Law Office for 80-thousand dollars through June 2027.
LOCK HAVEN LOOKS TO SAVE TIGER DEN PLAYGROUND
Lock Haven officials are looking at whether the Tiger Den playground can be saved. The Bald Eagle Street playground has been closed since October because of damage and maintenance issues. Residents urged council this week to repair and preserve it. Council voted to spend about 28-hundred dollars on an evaluation to see what can be salvaged. A full repair estimate came in at 424-thousand dollars.
