LYCOMING COUNTY PRISON INMATE FACES NEW CHARGES IN 2023 GUN STORE BURGLARY
A Lycoming County Prison inmate awaiting trial in the shooting death of 18-year-old Nasir Kramer is now facing charges in a 2023 gun store burglary. Twenty-three-year-old Zyriece Walker is accused of taking part in the break-in at National Range and Armory on Washington Boulevard, where seven firearms were stolen. Police say DNA evidence linked Walker to the scene. He remains jailed without bail in the homicide case, with another 75-thousand dollars bail added.
THREE HURT IN ROUTE 44 CRASH IN NIPPENOSE TOWNSHIP
Three people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Route 44 in Nippenose Township. Firefighters and three ambulances were called around 7:40 after a Ford and Subaru Outback collided. Nippenose Valley Fire Chief Dean Miller says all three injured people were taken to Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital for treatment. State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
LYCOMING-CLINTON JOINDER PREPARES FOR POSSIBLE MEDICAID COVERAGE LOSSES
The Lycoming-Clinton Joinder is preparing for possible Medicaid coverage losses when new federal requirements take effect in 2027. According to the Sun-Gazette, state projections show nearly 18-thousand people in Congressman Dan Meuser’s district and more than 15-thousand in Congressman Glenn Thompson’s district could lose coverage. Joinder director Keith Wagner says reduced enrollment could mean less funding and waiting lists for services.
NEARLY 200 CAMPERS ATTEND TROOP F SUNNY DAY CAMP IN HUGHESVILLE
Nearly 200 special needs campers turned out yesterday for the fourth annual Pennsylvania State Police Troop F Sunny Day Camp at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds in Hughesville. Trooper Lauren Lesher says the event has grown dramatically.
**TROOPER LAUREN LESHER: “We had 50 applicants at first and this year we had 190 applicants — so it’s been a fantastic day!”

WILLIAMSPORT COUPLE BACK IN COURT IN CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CASE
A Williamsport man and woman accused of drugging a child so she could be sexually assaulted were back in court this week. Prosecutors say the child’s mother, Ashley Kane, gave the girl Xanax before leaving her with Steve Randal Guthrie, who allegedly sexually abused her over a period of more than two years. Guthrie’s attorney argues the accusations were influenced by a custody dispute, while prosecutors want the cases combined so the child would not have to testify twice.
SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE REFERRED TO STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL
The decades-old sexual assault case against retired Sunbury attorney Thomas Boop is being referred to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office. Union County District Attorney Brian Kerstetter says he has a conflict because he knows Boop personally and worked with him professionally. The 77-year-old is accused of assaulting an 11-year-old girl in 1963, when he was 13 or 14. Boop is scheduled for arraignment September 30th in Lewisburg, and authorities say additional charges are pending.
LYCOMING REGIONAL POLICE LAUNCH RAPID COMMUNITY SURVEY
Lycoming Regional Police are asking residents, workers and others who interact with the department to take part in a new Rapid Community Survey. Chief Christopher Kriner says at least 200 participants are needed for scientifically based results. Those who sign up will get one question a week by text, with responses kept anonymous. Registration is available through a QR code at LRPD.org.
LOYALSOCK SENIOR EARNS PERFECT SCORE ON STATE CIVICS ASSESSMENT
A Loyalsock teen is being recognized for earning a perfect score on Pennsylvania’s civics assessment. Loyalsock Township High School senior Owen Bennett was the only one of 100 students in the district to score 100 percent on the test, which covers U.S. history, government and citizenship. Bennett received a Certificate of Achievement from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
