FIRE CAUSES EVACUATION OF ELDERLY RESIDENTS
A fire broke out in one unit of the top floor of the Williamsport Manor Wednesday and nearly 100 residents had to be evacuated.  The fire, which triggered the sprinkler system in the building, was confined to a 5th floor apartment around 9pm.  A few elderly residents were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion by emergency crews from the city, South Williamsport, Old Lycoming Township and Montoursville.

POLICE CONFIRM SHOOTING IN CITY
The Williamsport Bureau of Police confirmed that there was a shooting incident Wednesday morning in the city, and one man was reported to be wounded.  Police were called to the 600 block of Maple Street at about 2:20am when witnesses heard gunshots.  The name of the male victim has not been released but he was transported to a local hospital and is undergoing treatment.  An investigation is ongoing and anyone with knowledge of the shooting should contact Agent Jason Bolt.

COUNCIL WILL ELECT OFFICERS TONIGHT
With the departure of Jonathan Williamson from the Williamsport City Council, there will be an election tonight for the seats of president and vice president.  According to the Sun Gazette, other matters to be considered tonight at 7:30, the rebidding of the City Hall projects, and the ratification of the insurance payment settlements to three city police officers with civil rights claims. City Council meetings are held at council chambers on the second floor of City Hall.

HEAT STICKS AROUND UNTIL SATURDAY
The heat and humidity that we’re seeing in the Susquehanna  Valley will remain with us through the weekend with Saturday expected to be the hottest day. The heat index expected to be like the low 100s and according to the National Weather Service, a historical rarity for the region.  The Sun Gazette reports that the last time Williamsport hit the 100 degree mark it was twice during the summer of 2011.  According to the National Climatic Data Center, the hottest temperature recorded here was 111 degrees on July 10th 1946.

POLICE WORK A BASEMENT FIRE IN JERSEY SHORE
Scanner reports and social media say there was a basement fire in Jersey Shore this morning where an evacuation took place.  Police responded to reports of a fire and possible entrapment at the Broadway Hotel  at 120 South Broad Street there at about 2am today.  According to North Central Pa dot com, police are on the scene working overhaul and continuing with the investigation.  Watch for emergency traffic along Allegheny Street.

MIDDLEBURG MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ABUSE
A Union County man has gone to prison after being charged with 32 different criminal counts after allegedly sexually abusing a teenage boy.  Twenty seven year old Ryan Koppenhaver of Middleburg allegedly solicited nude photos of the 14 year old boy and later met and assaulted him last October in Buffalo Township.  Several of the felonies include unlawful contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault and other charges.

SNYDER COUNTY OFFICES COULD EXPAND
There are plans in the works to renovate a former bank in Snyder County and turn it into county offices in Middleburg.  The Daily Item reports that a 1.8 million dollar building project is being considered at the former M&T Bank property which is owned by the county, adjacent to the courthouse there.  A 500 thousand dollar state grant is on hand to offset the costs.  The project should be put out for bid next January, for now a public meeting is planned for late July or early August between department leaders about the renovation.

LYCOMING COUNTY FAIR: EXPECT WEEKEND HEAT
The Lycoming County Fair is still going strong heading into the final weekend.  Temperatures are expected to be hot – approaching the upper 90s but there will still be activity after 7pm at the fair with4-H Fmaily Fun night along with the Lamb and Calf dressing contest, Open stick Horse show and a Tack auction. The Lycoming County Fair is at 1 east Park Street in Hughesville with gates opening daily 10am to 10pm
