BACKYARD BROADCASTING LOCAL NEWS – AUGUST 20, 2022

According to Northcentral PA dot com, a shooting in the City of Williamsport, took place around 9:45pm on Friday night. According to the report, numerous people were taken into custody and multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene, in the neighborhood of West Edwin Street and Locust Street. Witnesses report shots striking a home on Locust Street, during the incident.

A former music teacher and soccer coach from Clinton County was resentenced on Thursday, for violating his parole. Cole Black had been detained since July 6th, for violating his parole, by viewing pornography, drinking beer and being around minor children without approval of his probation officer. Black formerly taught music at Bucktail High School in Renovo and was the former Girls Soccer Coach at Central Mountain High School, in Mill Hall.

A 28 year old Oregon man was sentenced with making interstate threats to the Montgomery Area School District, in July 2021. Harvey Dulgar purportedly called the district and left a threatening message on the school’s answering machine. Dulgar pleaded guilty in March of this year, after a thorough investigation by the FBI and Pennsylvania State Police.

A 19 year old Williamsport male was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, corrupting the morals of a minor, conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to felony trespassing; after an incident in which a dirt bike was stolen from a storage building in mid-November. Lance DeBrody was arraigned before Judge Gary Whiteman, and was released on $25,000 bail, after waiving his preliminary hearing.

A 40 year old man from Paxinos was arrested and jailed for allegedly trying to sell drugs to others in Northumberland County. John Kisner was charged with multiple offenses, including felony possession with intent, false identification, hindering apprehension, and other charges. Kisner’s bail was set at $35,000, at his preliminary hearing; but, was transported to the Northumberland County Jail, for failure to post bail.

A man from Bloomsburg was charged with assault, after allegedly defending his daughter’s honor, at a park near Bloomsburg. 42 year old Kasey Unger went to Columbia Park and punched another male and broke a tooth, after the victim allegedly made inappropriate comments to Unger’s 16 year old daughter. Unger awaits a September 12th preliminary hearing before Judge Richard Cashman.

The median home sale price in Pennsylvania rose by about 10 percent, compared to last year at this time, according to the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors. The median home price was $219,154. But, in Pennsylvania saw 13, 096 homes sold in July, that’s down from June and down 19% from last year.

Former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush will attend the unveiling and dedication of the final installation of the Bases Loaded Statue project this Sunday at 5pm in Williamsport.  According to the Sun Gazette, the likenesses of the three new statues watching from behind home plate  – will resemble Cy Young, Jackie Robinson and President George W. Bush. The ceremony will include other notable visitors and others including Rachel Robinson, the widow of Jackie Robinson, Baseball Commissioner Robert Manfred Jr., and Governor Tom Wolf.  The final installation of the project that has commemorated the heritage of Little League in Williamsport, coincides with the 75th anniversary of the first little league game played here, June 6th, 1939.  Road closures around Market Square will start at noon Sunday with detours in place.

The Keystone Junior Leaguers from Mill Hall, are playing for the United States Championship this evening in Taylor, Michigan; against the team that beat them earlier in the series on Thursday. The Keystone squad defeated Loudon South Little League, from Virginia, 10 to 6, on Friday night, to advance to the championship game. Tonight, at 6pm, the boys from Mill Hall will take on Corpus Christi, Texas, for the U.S. championship.

The Williamsport Crosscutters dropped their series opener against the State College Spikes on Friday night, losing 9 to 8. The series continues tonight in State College, with a 6:35pm first pitch.

JUNIOR BOXING TODAY AT ELM PARK

Junior Boxing returns to Williamsport for the second year in a row, as around 20 bouts have been scheduled, this afternoon in Elm Park. Boxing In The Park, will be held rain or shine, at 3pm. Tickets can be purchased at the gate, for this outdoor event.
