MAN ARRESTED FOR ORDERING FAST FOOD NAKED

A city man with a police history who was most recently arrested for allegedly trying to order food at a Williamsport drive through while naked has a preliminary hearing scheduled for November 1st.  According to North Central PA dot com, 35 year old Colin Smith was recognized by police after UPMC staff reported to them he had come to the emergency room for treatment from drugs he had taken, but left before a doctor evaluated him. Police say witnesses directed them to Smith at the Wendy’s drive thru on Maynard street August 14th after they found Smith’s clothes in the street.  He was taken into custody.  Smith had previously been incarcerated for terroristic threats, and simple assault in 2017 and earlier this year.  No bail was set for Smith’s new charges at this time.

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE IN COAL TOWNSHIP

Coal Township police were called to a domestic incident outside JR’s Mini Mart on West Arch Street after store employees witnessed a man punch a woman on surveillance video, and then saw him pull her by a backpack strap.  According to police, 22 year old Austin Snyder and the woman were located by authorities behind the store in a wooded area and while being interviewed, police saw injuries on the woman who said her bruises were from falling on a rock.  Snyder was taken into custody and charged with second-degree simple assault, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia and more.   He was released after his formal arraignment after posting 5 thousand dollars unsecured bail.

GREENSPACE PLAN COMING TO WILLIAMSPORT

In an effort to update a 16-year-old master plan and incorporate increased accessibility, connectivity, and emerging recreation trends into parks and outdoor spaces throughout Williamsport, the office of Mayor Derek Slaughter has announced a70 thousand dollar grant from DCNR to prepare a comprehensive recreation, park, open space, and green infrastructure plan. According to a press release, they will solicit a variety of resident feedback on the recreation improvements.  The project in Williamsport is one of 330 projects across Pennsylvania that received a total investment of $90 million in grants from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program.

SAFETY SEAT CHECK IN MILTON TODAY

State Police in Milton are hosting a child safety seat check today at the barracks in recognition of  National Child Passenger Safety Week.  According to police most child safety seats are not installed properly.  Parents can call for an appointment with a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician who will be at 50 Lawton Lane in Milton from 9am til 3pm today doing the checks.  Families are encouraged to have the seats already installed, and police will provide information on proper installation for those who are not using the seats correctly.

MAN JAILED FOR HAVING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY ON PHONE

A man from Shamokin Dam will go to jail for having child pornography on his phone.  According to the Daily Item, 33 year old Donald Gower Jr plead guilty to one count of felony child pornography in Snyder County Court.  A judge dismissed nine other felony counts of pornography against Gower.  Police say Gower was arrested earlier in 2022 after a partner saw pornography of children on his phone, and contacted them.  Gower’s term is for one to seven years.

SUIT AGAINST BUCKNELL FRATERNITY DISMISSED

A lawsuit against a Bucknell University fraternity, local members and it’s national chapter has been dismissed in federal court.  According to North Central PA dot com, John Jean, a former student, had filed the suit over hazing incidents that happened in September of 2020 while he was pledging Kappa Delta Rho.  He said the fraternity members forced him to drink alcohol to dangerous excess and punched him when he tried to leave the party.  Jean, who at the time was 5’4 and 130 pounds, was treated at a nearby hospital for alcohol poisoning and a concussion.  No word from either parties as to why the suit was dismissed.  The KDR fraternity, has been terminated from the Bucknell campus in November of 2020.

WATCH OUT FOR LOTTERY SCAMS

Lottery Scams are occurring in Northumberland County.  According to North Central pa dot com, The Northumberland County District Attorney says one of the latest scams is a letter will arrive saying you won a significant amount of money, but to claim it, you must cash the check and send the cash back to the scammer – they hope before the bank knows the check is fraudulent. If you receive any correspondence like this, do not cash any checks and find out more information at the federal trade commission website, consumer.ftc.gov.

“SPARK TANK” GRANT AVAILABLE FOR CREATIVE IDEAS

A grant is being made available from the First Community Foundation Partnership for the future implementation of ideas that advance or promote racial equity in Lycoming County. According to a release by FCFP, they will create a “Spark Tank” as a way to encourage the community to work together and apply for the grant by outlining their project, showing how it can make lasting changes.  FCFP will invest 25 thousand dollars in a creative idea and will accept applications  through September 30th.  Find the application and information at fcfpartnership.org.
