FATAL SILO ACCIDENT CLAIMS THREE LIVES

Three people died in a silo accident yesterday after an entrapment emergency happened just after 7am.  According to Penn Live, crews arrived at the Amish farm on Lower Brush Valley Road in Potter Township, Centre County after a 47 year old, 19 year old and 14 year old were reported trapped in a silo on the farm site.  State Police from Rockview say OSHA is being called to the scene, where a teenage boy died 6 months ago in a manure spreading accident.  There are no details at this time on how the three became trapped in the silo. 

FURNITURE COMPANY RESPONDS TO BUNK BED LAWSUIT

Montoursville’s Savoy Contract Furniture has made a statement that they regularly warned little league organizers to use the guard rails, following being named in a civil lawsuit with Little League Baseball Incorporated, for the liability of a player falling from a top bunk without a rail, and suffering a fractured skull during this year’s World Series.  According to the Sun Gazette, Savoy has said their standard procedure of recommending safety measures when lofting the beds was in place and their beds contained warning labels for the use of safety rails.  12 year old Easton Oliverson, the little league player from Utah who fell from the bed and sustained serious brain injuries, has returned home.  His family is seeking more than 50 thousand dollars for his care, as well as punitive damages in a Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.

KANGAROO SEIZED FROM PA HOME

Pennsylvania Game Wardens seized a 6 month old kangaroo in Littlestown, PA after getting a tip that a person was trying to sell the exotic animal for 5 thousand dollars through a social media post.  According to the Gettysburg Times, police obtained a search warrant and contacted the man who at first denied having the kangaroo, but they searched the property and found the animal wrapped in a blanket and hidden in a closet.  Police say there hasn’t been an arrest announced yet.  In Pennsylvania, it is illegal to possess, import or sell exotic wildlife species without the proper permits.  According to the Game Commission, exotic animal cases they are called to are usually large cats, but this is their first kangaroo case.

LANCERS NAME NEW BASEBALL COACH

The Loyalsock lancers have named one of the program’s most decorated players as their new head coach for the upcoming 2023 baseball season.  According to North Central PA dot com, 2015 graduate and member of both championship teams in 2014 and 2015, Jimmy Webb will take the helm at Loyalsock Township School district  after being an assistant since 2016.  Webb earned a dual degree in business communication and PR at Lock Haven in 2019 while working with the team.  Webb is the only baseball player in Pennsylvania to ever be named to the all-state team four years in a row.

ROAD RAGE LEADS TO ARREST

A Montoursville man is being charged in what police are calling a road rage incident that occurred this summer.  According to the Sun Gazette, police say 59 year old Mark Oeler created a verbal confrontation with another driver on West Third Street after 6:30am on July 29th after allegedly tailgating the victim on the exit from Route 15 north to west third. Oeler allegedly passed the victim on the double yellow lines, only to be waiting for them in a threatening manner at a local garage.  Police were called and they charged Oeler with terroristic threats, simple assault and disorderly conduct.  He waived his preliminary hearing and is free on 10 thousand dollars bail.

LOCK HAVEN MAN TO HAVE A NON-JURY TRIAL OVER JANUARY 6

A Lock Haven man will face charges this fall in front of a US District of Columbia Judge for his role in breaching the US Capitol Building on January 6th last year. According to the Sun Gazette, 28 year old Brian Gunderson attempted to have three counts of assault, impeding officers and entering a restricted building, but lawyers cited Gunderson’s social media accounts that clearly showed him inside the capitol building on the day of the insurrection. A judge denied Gunderson’s motions to dismiss and allowed him to be free on his own recognizance until the non-jury trial November 9th.

PHILLY WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT

A 19 year old woman from Philadelphia was arrested after she caused a scene in the Rite Aid on 5th street in Williamsport on September 7th.  According to the Sun Gazette, Tiaura Sanya Robinson became irate, throwing an item scanner in the face of a Pharmacist and angrily leaving the store with a ten dollar prescription without paying for it.  Police say Robinson was charged with aggravated and simple assault and disorderly conduct.  She was arraigned Tuesday and released on 25 thousand dollars bail.

ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL TO HAPPEN NEXT THURSDAY

There will be an active shooter drill next Thursday at the Miller Center in Lewisburg, not today as some reports indicated.  According to coordinators from Evangelical Community Hospital, the Greater Susquehanna YMCA and Geisinger they will test emergency responsiveness next Thursday September 27th from 10am til 3pm at the Hardwood drive facility which will be closed for the day.  First responders and other organizations will be participating in the drill and the public is being told so they can be aware of the activity and noises that will be taking place next week.  Other law enforcement teams may be responding around the area that same day in response to the drill.
