FATAL SHOOTING AT IUP, POLICE SEEK SUSPECTS

A 15 thousand dollar reward is being offered for information leading to the identification of the people who shot one person and wounded 8 others at a private party a mile from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus during their homecoming weekend.  According to the Daily Item, PA State Troopers said there were multiple shooters and rounds of gunshots were fired inside the Chevy Chase Community Center in White Township early Sunday morning following a noise complaint that police were about to address when the shooting incident started.  Police are collecting evidence and Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi Jr. is asking for cooperation from the public as they investigate.  A 22 year old man from Pittsburgh was pronounced dead at the scene the other victims , 2 of which were IUP students, were treated at Indiana Regional Medical and area UPMC hospitals.  Contact State Police with information 724-357-1960.

AMISH WOMAN INJURED IN CRASH

A crash involving a car and a horse and buggy in Limestone Township last Wednesday, sent an Amish woman to the hospital and injured the horse.  According to North Central PA dot com, 25 year old Amber Fogelman of Watsontown told police she was blinded by the sun on Broadway Road at about 5:50pm and struck the buggy that was traveling partially in the westbound lane.  The Amish woman was ejected about 30 feet and taken to Geisinger medical center with unknown injuries, the horse was transported for veterinary care.  Fogelman did not sustain any injuries and no charges have been filed.

FAMILY UPDATE ON AIDEN WALLACE

The Montoursville Area High School posted an update on social media on behalf of the family of Aiden Wallace, the 17 student who fell at Jacoby Falls during a field Trip Wednesday.  According to the family, Aiden is in stable but critical condition as he recovers from the trauma and responds to the treatment plan prescribed for him.  They say the concern, thoughts and prayers about Aiden and the family are appreciated and for Warrior families to check on the well-being of their children in response to Aiden’s recent accident.

WELLSBORO MAKES LIST OF BEST FOLIAGE IN THE US

Wellsboro, PA, with its Grand Canyon, is number 9 out of the 55 best towns in the country to see fall foliage.  According to a recent article by Country Living, the Tioga County town is an absolute must see, ranking in the same space with towns in Vermont like Stowe (5) and Montpelier (2).  The only other town in Pennsylvania to make the list at #28  is Milford, a small town in the Poconos. Number one on the list is Pioneer Valley Massachusetts.

MAN ENTERS APARTMENT ILLEGALLY, CALLS IN A BURGLARY

A man free on bail from a misdemeanor terroristic threat charge he received in early September, was caught in the Shelley Circle apartment he was ordered to stay away from, and then lied about a burglary there.  According to police, conditions of 22 year old Jaheem Xavier Lewis’s bail were that he stay away from the Kelly Township apartment of his prior accuser.  Two days after being released, Lewis went to the apartment and was caught inside and later called police saying he was told someone broke in, and that why he was on the scene September 12th.  After police interviewed neighbors and witnesses, Lewis was charged with felony criminal trespass and misdemeanor of false reports.  His preliminary hearing in Union-Snyder County court  is November 6th.

NO THREAT AFTER STUDENT ALLEGEDLY THREATENING A SHOOTING

A tip on the Safe 2 Say platform Thursday saying that a middle school student at Mount Carmel Area School District said he wanted to “shoot up the school” has been investigated and found there is no threat to the school or any students at this time. According to the Daily Item, Mount Carmel Borough and Mount Carmel Township police departments were immediately notified by school administration after a student allegedly made the threatening comment online. Mount Carmel Area School District Superintendent Pete Cheddar said there was police presence in the district buildings Friday as an extra precaution, and asks parents to continue to talk to their children about the dangers of making threats, or kidding about dangerous behavior.

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE POLICY FORUM FOR THE PUBLIC

The DEP is holding a meeting this week in Ranshaw for public comment on their Interim Final Environmental Justice Policy.  According to the News Item, the agency will meet in the Brady Fire Company banquet hall on  Maple St. Thursday from 6 to 8pm.  There will also be virtual meetings this Wednesday and on Wednesday October 25th, both from 5 to 7 p.m. Register and get information at  dep.pa.gov/EJPolicyRevision. The Interim Final Environmental Justice Policy is an outline of procedures and actions that the Department may take to meet the requirements of an environmental law or outline key practices of an agency or organization.

STORM SURGE PROJECT IN MIFFLINBURG

There will be a sanitation and storm sewer project along Eighth Street in Mifflinburg starting this week.  According to PennDOT, today through Thursday, a contractor working for Mifflinburg will be replacing utilities at Eighth Street at the intersection with Walnut Street.Watch for single lane conditions and flaggers on the scene between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, weather permitting.
